pick up from your hotel in beijing around 8:00am and drive to gubeikou great wall. the 150km drive takes about 2 and half hours. gubeikou was a strategic pass of the great wall in ancient times, offfering an important access to inner mongolia and northeast of china. the main part of the gubeikou wall was first built in the ming dynasty 1368, and composed of two main sections - panlongshan great wall (the coiled dragon mountain great wall) and wohushan great wall(the crouching tiger mountain great wall).
you are arranged to hike panlongshan great wall at gubeikou, nicknamed after the name of the mountain on which it lies - the coiled dragon mountain (panlongshan mountain). panlongshan great wall is mostly unrestored, oroginal, less tourist and one of the most beautuful sections of the wall around beijing. the hike up and down (no cable car) takes you approxi 2-3 hours.
before or after the great wall hiking, you may take one hour to visit the ancient gubeikou village below the panlongshan great wall. the village boasts one of the most idyllic villages around beijing with rivers and gardens...
